The high school football regular season is heading into its final two weeks and teams across the state are looking to build momentum heading into the playoffs. Across Districts VII and VIII, several MaxPreps Pennsylvania top 25 teams took the field last Friday, including 4th ranked Central Catholic, 7th ranked Peters Township, 9th ranked North Allegheny, 17th ranked Aliquippa, 18th ranked Thomas Jefferson, and 24th ranked Belle Vernon.
Belle Vernon, the reigning 3A state champions, entered the top 25 after a dominant 55-7 win over Mt. Pleasant. The Leopards, who moved to 6-1 with the win, were carried to victory by their running game, which saw eight players combine for 448 yards and five touchdowns on just 27 touches. Belle Vernon will look to improve their ranking on Friday, October 20th as they head on the road to play the 5-3 Southmoreland Scotties.
Notably, moving out of the top 25 is Canon-McMillan. After suffering a 24-17 loss to Upper St. Clair, the team fell from 23rd to 36th in the state.
